Because if any story deserves it... I resisted reading this until my day off so I wouldn't get interrupted by things like work and sleep and over the span of 12 hours with stops only for food, bathroom breaks and one afternoon nap, I consumed this book. It's truly epic and obviously well researched, which the author confirms at the end. And while it reaches far beyond a simple romance to truly nail-biting political intrigue and world-saving events, it never manages to forget or lose sight of the characters, their relationships and delivers a satisfying end for all (though I was highly frustrated by Sasha's stubbornness, it was entirely within character. He was such a wounded man I just wanted to hug him and tell him it would be ok. I may have been rooting for his HEA most of all).As for the plot, the betrayals were tough and there was enough misdirection that I was kept on my toes. There was some definite relief over who ended up not being a traitor. One option could have really hurt. It was immensely satisfying to see each of our heroes get to take on their own personal demons in the showdown and it truly was a group effort, from the trek across Russia, to the submarine crew's heroics to the siege at the White House, everyone was important in stopping disaster. Also kudos for the portrayal of Faisal as a peaceful Muslim hero and one of the most loveable characters in the series. And random thought, I am truly amazed that no one ended up with frostbite! The author really made the readers and characters feel the COLD!
Anyway what can you say about Jack and Ethan. I had a feeling what the last line in the book would be in relation to them and I still teared up. They will go down as one of my favorite couples ever. I really really really wish Jack were the real US President right now. ;)
I may have to go read some sappy mellow romance next just to come off the adrenaline high from this series. It's epic, go read it. :)

Enemy Within The Executive Office #3 Tal Bauer Books Reviews
I'm basically speechless. I just finished it this morning, and can without a doubt say that this is the BEST series I have read in a long time. A reviewer mentioned that Tom Clancy would be proud - heck anyone would be. Which makes me sad, because this should be a huge 'mainstream' best seller to rival Clancy, Crichton, DeMille and so many more who write exceptionally well written, detailed & thrilling novels. The research and writing that went into this series is unprecedented for traditional M/M novels (at least the almost 200 I have read in the past few years).
If you don't read M/M novels, please DO NOT let that stop you from reading the Executive Office series - you'll be missing out on so much more. It is more than just about romantic relationships. The story is about humanity, and the potential we have to unleash destruction, to rebuild but most of all the absolute love & loyalty that exists between lovers, family, friends, comrades and more. Not to mention there are tons of "edge of your seat" thrills. I cringed waiting to see who our traitors were going to be - and kept hoping it was not ***** or *** or *******.
Can't think of anything negative to say. Nope, not a thing. Some might think it was long, pshaw!! - that made it all the better. You got more - so much more - than some 200 page novel could ever have delivered. I loved that I kept looking at the % indicator and I was nowhere near the end. I've seen reviewers on other books exclaim "Oh, when will it end" and I kept thinking "Yay...I'm only 20% done - I have so much more to go. Woot woot!".
A spectacular end to a fabulous series, as expected. So much to say, it's hard to know where to start. I'm so happy there's an HEA for the three couples, for some early on, for a change of pace. I'm glad the traitors weren't people I didn't want them to be. And I'm glad they got theirs, and happy for Jack's particular part in it. My heart broke, over and over again, as I saw the parallels in the three relationships playing out, and watched as it seemed every new hope was repeatedly crushed, in a seemingly endless loop of misery and heartbreak. And then it soared when Bauer made it right, the way it should be for these men.
The writing was stellar — from the different ways Bauer allowed his readers a moment of respite, be they humorous or tense, to the dramatic battles, the hand-to-hand combat scenes, the submarine maneuvers, the adventure, the passion, the unexpected highs and desperately frightening lows — everything was brilliantly executed. It's an honor to read work of such high quality that is more than just about bad guys and the badasses who finally defeat them. Which brings me to the last thing I need to say...
...this is a very cinematic novel, both in terms of action and effects. Like watching a Star Trek or Transformers movie, or maybe one of those Marvel Superheroes movies. I love the story as a whole, but the parts that I will be returning to are not the parts where men are being beaten or hung or electrocuted, or where buildings or subs are being damaged or destroyed, or where they leave and break each others' hearts. Instead, it'll be the parts where they are connecting as human beings, as friends, as lovers, as partners for life, where they are finding themselves and each other, where they are growing and becoming their best selves in the face of incredible (really!) odds. For me, those parts are what make the rest of the story worthwhile. They are what makes this story, this whole series, more and far better than any superhero or war or apocalypse story. No doubt it's excellent as one of those, too, but I'm glad it's more.
Five very heartfelt and enthusiastic stars, Mr. Bauer! You've earned them all, repeatedly. Congratulations!
